Alums/Friends/Parents

This website is dedicated to you!  The constant that runs through this program - has for a hundred years - are the friends and alums that stand by it decade to decade, through thick and thin.  Hiram Conibear recognized that early on, although it probably didn't require rowing genius to see it.  When half the population of the city turns out to watch your crews row by for a fleeting second or two, you know you are, as he said, "onto something".

For parents it can be a little different, as in more intense and more personal.  That is expected.  We even have a Pocock quote for that, a quote he made when talking about his son, Stan, who also rowed (and coached freshmen) at Washington:  "A poem would be appropriate here on the blessings of children to their parents:  Ye are better than all the ballads -- That ever were sung or said -- For ye are living poems --  And all the rest are dead. (Longfellow)  This conveys the blessings of children to their parents.  Too much cannot be said on this score."
