Husky Crew Centennial

2003 marked the 100th anniversary of Husky Crew.  It was in the spring of 1903 that the University of Washington first entered an intercollegiate rowing regatta, defeating California in a fours race.

Over one hundred years later now and the program stands as one of the most colorful and successful sport traditions in the nation.  Personalities like Hiram Conibear, Rusty Callow, George Pocock, Al Ulbrickson and Dick Erickson now define the program.  Venues like Berlin, Moscow, and Henley are remembered for memorable and historical accomplishments.  And through it all, thousands of young men and women have had the chance to participate in the sport, test themselves in competition, and experience the unique team activity that is rowing.

Three major events celebrated our first 100 years:

1) The 100-year history of Washington Rowing men's program is now published on this website (the women's history is in progress).  This major project includes over 500 photographs, with the history written in chronological order by year.  All of our fans and alums are encouraged to participate by sending in a unique story that best conveys their experience with the sport.  Click here ---->    The History

2) The Centennial Banquet, attended by close to 1,000 friends and alums, was one for the ages.  Click here for pictures ---->   The Banquet

3) A trip to Henley for the men's team and a victory in the Ladies' Challenge Plate rounded out a stellar year for the program.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our 100-year Anniversary!

To honor the occasion, Husky Crew Gear has designed and produced a collector's enamel pin for our alumni and friends.  Click on the picture below to find out more about the Centennial Pin.
